Drink Some Water and Jazz It Up

Drinking water is probably one of the best things you can do for your health. It has a huge, huge impact. One of the very first things I recommend as you set

out to balance your life and your food intake is to drink water flavored with fresh lemon. This simple, positive action benefits your body in two ways. First, if you are dehydrated—as many women are—drinking water with lemon helps you nurture your body by recognizing, respecting, and fulfilling one of its most basic needs. Every

organ, tissue, and cell in your body needs water to survive and thrive. You will actually begin to feel more energized, vibrant, and alive as you rehydrate yourself.

Second, drinking water with lemon flushes toxins from your body by helping your kidneys, circulatory system, and sweat glands effectively get rid of unneeded chemicals, waste, and by-products. You will feel less bloated, experience less retention, and all-around feel a little lighter just by drinking H2O. Not only is it necessary to hydrate the body (which is roughly two-thirds water) and flush out toxins, it is vital to:

1. Carry nutrients to our cells

2. Absorb nutrients better

3. Lubricate the joints

4. Get rid of bloat (yes, if you need water you retain water)

5. Keep body temperature regulated

6. Rev up the metabolism

If you don’t get enough water, it’s not a matter of just being thirsty. It wreaks havoc on your body and leaves you feeling just plain lousy. If you want to live with energy and passion, you have to stay hydrated. Some of the side effects of dehydration include:

1. Decrease in energy levels and fatigue

2. Migraine (enough said)

3. Major digestion issues, which leave toxins in the body

4. Retained water that can lead to kidney problems

So go pour a glass and then keep on drinking! I know there are many prepackaged fancy water alternatives, but they’re not necessary. Sixty-four to seventy-two ounces of clear water with fresh lemon every day will give you the maximum benefit. Don’t worry! You can jazz that plain water up yourself simply by adding some citrus (squeeze in some fresh lime, grapefruit, even orange) and mint. Or you can add drops of pure pomegranate or cranberry juice and a mint leaf. If you need a little   sweetness, add a pinch of stevia. How much water should you drink? That depends on how much of a waterdrinker you already are. If you usuallynever drink water, you can’t suddenly start gulping down half a gallon a day. Gradually add it into your day. Choose water with lemon instead of soda, sugary juices, or iced tea. Keep a bottle of water with lemon in your workspace and your car, and drink frequently. If you’re not drinking water at all, begin with at least thirty-two ounces a day and go up from there. If you’re already drinking some, increase it to sixty-four to seventy-two ounces a day.
